How To Disassemble Masterforce Reciprocating Saw

What You Will Need

These are the items you will need to disassemble your Masterforce reciprocatingsaw:

  • Flat-head screwdriver (Klein Tools 605-6 Recommended)
  • Phillips-head screwdriver (Klein Tools 603-4 Recommended)
  • Panel popper (if necessary)

Let’s take a closer look at the components of this reciprocating saw before we begin our project. Before we begin disassembly, we need to be sure that we understand what we are working with. This will allow us to move forward confidently and have our saw sorted!

I will be using the Masterforce Reciprocating saw to simplify things. Most Masterforce saws will be similar in design. However, it is important to verify that the process works for your particular Masterforce saw by checking your owner’s manual or browsing the internet on your type of reciprocating tool.

Once we have identified all the components and know which parts make up each model, it is time to disassemble our saws. Here’s how I did it.

Step 1 – Remove The Footplate From The Handle

To remove the Masterforce footplate, I used a flat-head screwdriver to insert it into the release mechanism. Once the footplate was in place, I pulled it out and pushed down.

My Masterforce now has a hole in its underside, where there was previously only flat metal. We are so proud of our progress!

Step 2 – Remove The Blade Clamp Bracket From The Footplate

Next, we will need to take off the blade clamp bracket that holds our blade cartridge. We will need two flat-head screwdrivers. One at each end. Insert them in the bracket’s small holes on either side and pull them towards the side.

After you have taken it off, you will see a tiny spring that is held in place by a small metal clasp at each end. To reduce wear, I recommend that you keep these clasps in place when assembling your saws. This article might interest you: How to Break Down a Pallet With a Reciprocating saw

Step 3 – Remove The Blade Cartridge From The Blade Clamp Bracket

Once both pieces are disassembled we can remove the blade cartridge from the bracket. Simply grab the blue handle of the blade clamp bracket with one hand, and turn counterclockwise until it is free. This is similar to changing blades. Next, carefully lift it off. Best reciprocating sawbla 6-Piece (DW4856).

Your Masterforce saw has now been completely disassembled. If necessary, you can clean the metal pieces by wire brushing or scraping off any corrosion or rust to restore their shine.

Anatomy Of A Reciprocating Saw

The footplate, the blade clamp bracket and the blade cartridge are the three main components of most reciprocating saws. These three components work together to allow you to quickly and accurately control your saw. Let’s take a closer look each component:

The Footplate

Your reciprocating saw’s base is the footplate. Rubber feet keep the footplate in place while you are cutting. It also contains the trigger switch.

Blade Clamp Bracket

This is where you attach the blade cartridge to the machine. This piece is held in place by two screws on each side of the footplate. Then, a single screw connects the entire thing at the handle end. (Which we will get into later). Blade clamp bracket keeps your blade in place during cutting operations, while still allowing for you to remove and release blades as needed.

The Blade Cartridge

This is your fully rotating part of the reciprocating saw. The blade holder clamps to the backstop metal when the trigger switch is activated. This makes it versatile and useful for many purposes.
